DIY oat scrub
With the temperatures dropping off as fall and what feels like winter creep in, we have to work harder at protecting our skin from the cold, dry air. This simple DIY oat scrub can be used as a natural exfoliant with products you most likely have around your home already. Chamomile is good for irritable or troubled skin but other herbs such as rose petals, lavender, chickweed and calendula are also great to use and gentle on skin.
You'll also most likely have a carrier oil to hand to mix into your scrub. A carrier oil is used to “carry” other oils, such as infused oils or essential oils that require dilution before they can be applied to the skin. Common carrier oils are sweet almond, olive, sunflower, grape seed and apricot kernel.
What you'll need:
Blend the oats and herbs in a blender into a fine grind. Then add oil slowly while stirring until it makes a slightly thicker paste, that still feels grainy to touch, not runny. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Use as needed to relieve dry skin and moisturise afterwards.
