Native Americans used this valuable herb for colds, flu and fevers. It has been used to restore strength in the stomach and spleen, and as a tonic for acute and chronic fevers.
Research has shown that boneset contains antiseptic properties and promotes sweating to help in cases of colds and flu. It has also been shown to contain antiviral properties and strengthens the immune system by enhancing the secretion of interferon. Other studies have found boneset effective against minor viral and bacterial infections by stimulating the white blood cells.
In addition, it has been used to treat indigestion and pain and may also contain some mild anti-inflammatory agents to help with conditions such as arthritis.
